The phrase "Stay blessed" is commonly used across the globe. When a person tells another person to “stay blessed,” he or she probably means that the other person will continue to have good health and financial stability and have no problems in life. But have we ever pondered on the deeper meaning of staying blessed? Contrary to popular belief, it is not just about having a trouble-free life; it is about a spiritual state of joy and satisfaction in being right with God. In this article, we will study Psalm 1:1-2 to find the true meaning of being blessed.
Understanding the Modern Interpretation
Often, ‘being blessed’ is seen as maintaining a life free from problems, filled with good health, and financial stability. Some connect it to being a good person and receiving positive vibes from the universe. However, this modern interpretation misses the core of what it means to be truly blessed.
‘True Blessing’ Defined
Being blessed, according to Psalm 1:1-2, goes beyond a trouble-free existence. It refers to a joyful spiritual state derived from being in harmony with God's will. This does not mean a life without challenges but finding joy despite difficulties because of a strong connection with God.
To understand how to become blessed, we turn to Psalm 1:1-2.
Verse 1: The Three Don'ts
Breaking down verse 1, we encounter three "don'ts": don't walk in the counsel of the ungodly, don't stand in the path of sinners, and don't sit in the seat of scoffers.
The word "ungodly" does not just mean wicked but also refers to those who live without considering God's perspective. A blessed person avoids their counsel.
The term "sinners" refers to those who intentionally disobey God. Standing in their path indicates considering their lifestyle. This is a caution against being influenced by those who prioritize self-centered choices over God-centered ones.
"Scoffers" are those who mock religious pursuits. Sitting in their seat signifies identifying with their activities. The emphasis here is on choosing our company wisely, as it significantly impacts our relationship with God.
Verse 2: The Two Dos
Verse 2 introduces two "dos": delight in the Law of the Lord and meditate on it day and night.
‘Delighting’ in the Law does not mean blind obedience but finding joy in the guidance it provides. It is about recognizing the beauty, sweetness, and preciousness of God's Word.
‘Meditation’ involves reflecting on God's word throughout daily activities, allowing it to guide responses and actions. This practice prevents us from getting entangled in worldly ideas and ensures a continual connection with God's wisdom.
The combination of delighting in and meditating on God's word helps one to navigate the world while staying true to God's will.
So, how to stay blessed?
In the pursuit of blessings, Psalm 1:1-2 provides a roadmap:
Be cautious of influences: choose godly counsel.
Be mindful of imitation: avoid paths that lead away from God.
Be selective about your company: surround yourself with those who uplift your spiritual journey.
Delight in God's Word: find joy in the guidance it offers.
Reflect on God's Word: let it be a constant companion in your daily life.
Until next time… Stay Blessed!
