John 3:16 is the single most famous Bible verse in the world. It has been said that this verse is the essence of the entire Bible. In this edition, we’ll unpack and learn three things from this Bible Verse.
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
John 3:16 (NIV)
1. Love
The first thing that we can learn from the most famous verse of the Bible is the Love of God.
Our definition of love revolves around expecting things from our loved ones, doesn’t it? This world has made people consumers. We take, receive, consume. We keep on asking and expecting things from our loved ones—all because we love them.
However, John 3:16 reverses this idea. We can learn that the core idea of Love is to give rather than to take. Love at its core is sharing and not consuming. God loves us, regardless of who we are, and that's a fact. It was out of Love that God the Father sent Jesus.
Imagine how good this world would be if we all shared with others out of our love for each other!
Reflect on this: How do you mirror Jesus’ love in your life and relationships?
Let’s move to the next takeaway.
2. Giving
The biblical idea of Giving is this: Giving our best for our loved ones. Our Heavenly Father sent His one and only Son. He did not hesitate to spare Jesus. And the best kind of Giving is Giving out of Love.
And when I think that God, His Son not sparing,
Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in –
That on the cross, my burden gladly bearing,
He bled and died to take away my sin!
Carl Boberg (How Great Thou Art)
The purpose behind giving is not that we might get something in return. But the purpose behind our giving should be because God has given us so much. God blesses us so that we can be a blessing.
Moreover, our giving reflects the very character of God who keeps on giving. The greatest act of giving in the entire world is by the one who made it; God gave His only Son. Even though our giving is nothing, but a mere fraction of what God gave, when we give, we reflect the true nature of God.
Hence, Loving and Giving cannot be separated.

3. Purpose
A lot of people have heard of the name 'Jesus’, but lesser know a little about Him. Many know little about Jesus, but fewer know why He came to this Earth.
The majority of people think that Jesus primarily came so that we might live better lives. But this cannot be farther from the truth. Sure, Jesus is our role model to imitate, but that is not the main purpose of Jesus’ life. So, then, what is the main purpose?
Jesus came to this world not to help us live a better life but that we would have eternal life—provided that we believe Him. Believing is a religious term for trusting. Trusting that Jesus died in our place and that His sacrificial death saves us from our sins.
Now that you know why Jesus came to this world, why don’t you share the purpose?
