2024 is already here. Many would need a handful of reasons to start reading the Bible. If you’re still on the fence about whether you should read God’s Word or if you need some motivation to start, here are three reasons why you should read the Bible.
1. For starters, it is God's Word.
Imagine that the person you love the most has written a letter to you. Would you not read it? Of course, you would! Similarly, although the Bible is not written to you but for you, it is written so that you may be edified as you read it.
Even though human authors penned it, the Bible is ultimately inspired or breathed by God (2 Timothy 3:16-17). The very fact that God gave the Bible in your hands shows that He wants you to read it and not keep it on your shelf to collect dust. I urge you to read it in 2024.
2. Countless humans have sacrificed their lives to pass on the Bible.
The Bible translators thought that the task of translating and transmitting the Bible was more important and precious than their lives.
John Wycliffe, condemned posthumously in 1415, for translating the Bible into Middle English, had his remains exhumed and burned by the Council of Constance in 1428.
Jan Hus, a Czech reformer influenced by Wycliffe, was burned at the stake as a heretic in 1415 for advocating Bible translation into the vernacular.
Miles Coverdale, completing the first complete English Bible in 1535, faced exile due to Protestant associations, contributing to the translation efforts alongside William Tyndale.
William Tyndale was burned at the stake on October 6, 1536, for translating the Bible.
When you and I do not read the Bible regularly, we are letting the sacrifices of these Christian martyrs go to waste!
3. To fight the temptations
Not a day has gone by that I have not experienced temptations. God’s Word is a spiritual weapon. But why do we need a spiritual weapon?
“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.” Ephesians 6:12-13.
With all this being said, I know it is hard to read the Bible daily. I myself have missed so many days. I feel too lazy some days even to open the Bible (App). Other days, I read but I don’t understand a thing. Still other days, I don’t make time for it. If that’s you, I’m here to help.
Since we’ve faced all of these things, we made a Bible Reading plan for 2024 keeping these frustrations in mind. This plan takes less than 5 minutes to read every day. Click the link below to download it for FREE.
